Amazon is planning another major data center development in Montgomery County.

During the October 22, 2026, County Commission meeting, Amazon representative Brian Bolton introduced a potential second campus consisting of up to 15 data center buildings on approximately 890 acres.

The proposed development would be located near Danville, separate from Amazon’s existing campus under construction near New Florence.

A site map presented at the meeting identifies the proposed property south of Interstate 70, along South Outer Road near Missouri Route 161. The map also shows a recommended route for accessing the property.

Amazon has not finalized the land purchase, and no construction start date has been established. Bolton indicated that development could begin sometime between 2027 and 2029.

The announcement comes as Montgomery County already has two major data center projects under construction, one by Amazon and another by Google.

Residents attending Thursday’s meeting raised concerns about construction traffic, road safety, dust, and the effects of development on neighboring farmland.

Local resident Brenda Buechele also questioned the lack of an accessible community contact at Amazon. Residents experiencing construction-related problems have reported difficulty identifying someone within the company who can address their concerns.

It is a reasonable question: With construction already underway and another campus being proposed, why isn’t there an established community liaison residents can contact?

The proposed expansion also raises new questions about electricity demand, additional infrastructure, and how the cumulative effects of multiple large developments will be addressed.

For now, Amazon’s second campus remains a proposed development, but its October 22 announcement confirms the company’s intention to expand its presence in Montgomery County.
